How to Make Money Selling Used Books

If you’ve read any of my posts, you know I love a simple and minimal lifestyle. So if you decided it’s time to declutter or if you’d like to make some extra cash to put toward your debt then selling your used books can be profitable. This is something I’ve done a lot. One of my favorite things to sell are books. Whether you have college textbooks, novels, or nonfiction reads collecting dust, there are websites that will pay you to send them in — and it’s simpler than you think.

Here’s how to sell your books online with little effort — and a few places to get started.

1. SellBackYourBook.com

This site is one of the most straightforward options. Here’s how it works:

  • Go to SellBackYourBook.com
  • Enter the ISBN (usually found on the back of the book).
  • The site will give you an instant offer if it’s buying that title.
  • Accept the offer and print out the free shipping label.
  • Ship your books, and you’ll get paid by check or PayPal.

Check out there app. It works great.

It’s quick, easy, and perfect for getting rid of books you no longer need — especially old college textbooks or newer fiction/nonfiction. I use this one. It’s a great way to make extra.

2. BookScouter

BookScouter helps you compare prices from multiple buyback sites all at once. Just enter your ISBN, and it shows you which site is offering the most money.

Pros:

  • Saves time comparing offers.
  • Some vendors pay more than others depending on demand.

BookScouter is especially useful if you’re selling several books and want to get the best price for each.

3. Amazon Trade-In

While not all books are eligible, Amazon sometimes offers Amazon gift cards in exchange for books.

Steps:

  • Search for your book on Amazon’s Trade-In page.
  • If it’s eligible, you’ll get a trade-in value.
  • Send it in with free shipping.
  • Get paid in Amazon credit.

Perfect if you shop on Amazon often and want to turn unused books into purchases you were already planning to make.

I’ve made thousands selling used books to help pay off our debt. It’s a great side hustle.
